Offered is a Jackie Robinson Commemorative coin, card, pin and patch from the United States Mint. It is a 50th anniversary commemorative marking the 50th anniversary of Robinson becoming the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era when he started at first base on April 15, 1947 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The “Legacy Set” issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury includes a Proof Gold Five Dollar coin, minted at West Point, NY. The coin weights 8.359 grams and has an image of Robinson’s head on the front, stamped “Jackie Robinson Liberty 1997 In God We Trust.” The back of the coin has a stamped image of a baseball with the legend “1919-1972 Legacy of Courage” across the baseball, and the legend “United States of America E Pluribus Unum Five Dollars.”

A Topps baseball card has a silver foil front with the image of Robinson in his Brooklyn Dodgers uniform and the “Treasury United States Mint” logo in the upper left corner, a Dodgers logo in orange and blue, and the legend “Jackie Robinson” and a replica of his signature in a silver box under his head & shoulder photo. The back of the card is red and black ink on white paper, with lifetime statistics and a short bio sketch of Robinson (labeled card #312). There is a red, white and blue in gold pin, with a reproduction of Robinson’s signature in gold on a blue home plate, the legend “1947-1997 Anniversary” in red and gold ribbon, and the number “50” in white in the center. There is also a white patch inserted in the box, wrapped in plastic, with the image of a blue home plate with a gold and red sewn border, the reproduction of Robinson’s signature sewn in white, the legend “1947-1997 Breaking Barriers” sewn in blue on gold with red and gold outlines, and the number “50” sewn in white and orange against the blue home plate background. The coin, card and pin are set in a blue felt holder in a 1 ½ x 6 x 8 inch brown wood box with a white silk lid lining. The lining has gold embossed letters with the legend “Jackie Robinson Commemorative Coin Program United States Mint” accompanied by a gold seal of the United States, while the lid itself has a gold embossed seal of the United States with a gold medal latch and recessed hinges.
