There would be no Cal Ripken, Jr. or even Billy Ripken without Cal Ripken, Sr. and when Cal and Billy refer to teaching baseball “The Ripken Way,” they’re talking about the lessons passed along to them by their father, a lifelong baseball man and member of the Baltimore Orioles organization for more than three decades. Ripken Sr. served as minor league manager throughout the 1960s and was a coach for the major league squad from 1976-1986, before taking over as manager in 1987 and 1988 and continued as a coach again from 1989-1992.
Offered here is a wool Orioles cap and orange stirrup socks worn by Cal Ripken, Sr. circa 1984. This size 6 7/8 New Era cap has a white and black crown with an orange bill and displays excellent use. The Orioles logo is embroidered on the white front in black and orange and the top button is missing. The inner head band displays soiling and the green underside brim has “Rip 47” handwritten in black marker. This cap comes with a LOA from J.T. Sports (1322) for the game use. Also included in this lot is a pair of orange stirrup socks. These display light use.
