Offered is a Knute Rockne signed letter on University of Notre Dame Athletic Association letterhead dated October 22, 1929. The legendary Fighting Irish football coach signed his name “K. K. Rockne” in black fountain pen in the lower right of an 8½ x 11-inch ivory letterhead sheet with a typewritten letter to Mr. G. E. Abrams of Bell, California. The letterhead indicates Rockne as Notre Dame’s Director of Athletics and was dictated by him from home to his secretary. The letter was folded in half and then in thirds for mailing and comes with the original Notre Dame Athletic Association 3½ x 6½-inch letterhead envelope. The envelope also features the 1929 Football Schedule and the “ND” logo printed in blue at the left. The envelope has a 2-cent postage stamp and is postmarked October 22, 1929 at South Bend, Indiana. Rockne is regarded as one of the greatest coaches in college football history. His biography at the College Football Hall of Fame identifies him as "without question, American football's most-renowned coach". Rockne helped to popularize the forward pass and made the Notre Dame Fighting Irish a major factor in college football during his head coaching tenure from 1918 to his death in 1931. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AH41181) which has graded Rockne’s signature MINT 9.
