For 20 years Alex Trammell nailed down the shortstop position for Detroit, carving out a career that culminated with a plaque hanging in Cooperstown. During the 1980s Trammell was the best-hitting shortstop in the game, and during the 1986 season he hit 21 home runs, drove in 75 and maintained a soled .277 average.
