Presented is a Joe DiMaggio and James Braddock dual-signed program book from the famous New York City nightclub, The Cotton Club. The Hall of Fame New York Yankees centerfielder signed his name in black pen in the upper center of the 10 x 13-inch front cover, while the former heavyweight boxing champion famously named “The Cinderella Man” signed his name “Jimmy Braddock” in black pen directly below DiMaggio. The color cover reproduces a Julian Harrison painting beneath the logo “The World Famous Cotton Club” reversed out in white across the top. The club’s address “Broadway at 48th Street” is reversed out in white in the lower right. The program book is worn at the lower right front corner and edge, has a fold down the center, and a tear in the upper left center. The cover is loose from the book. There is a third signature and inscription across the top, in blue fountain pen, of unknown origin. The Cotton Club was a popular New York City nightclub from 1923 to 1940. It was located on 142nd Street and Lenox Avenue (1923 to 1935), then briefly in the midtown Theater District (1935-1940). The club operated during the United States' era of Prohibition and Jim Crow era racial segregation. Black people could not initially patronize the Cotton Club, but the venue featured many of the most popular black entertainers of the era. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (BB74292).
