2020 Late December Auction Closing January 3
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 1/3/2021
Offered is a lot of three Lou Gehrig baseball prints from the original negatives. The Hall of Fame New York Yankees first baseman is depicted in a series of three 5 x 7-inch black & white photographs in a road New York uniform at bat during batting practice, taken from the first base side. In one photo, the Iron Horse has just made contact and is in his follow-through on a swing; in a second photo, he has just hit the ball and is looking down the first base line to see where it lands, and in the third, he has popped up, looking up with the roof of the batting cage at the left edge of the photo and a barely-visible catcher below. These prints are from the original, vintage negatives and are crisp, clear images of the late Yankees slugger, who played 17 seasons with New York from 1923 to 1939. Gehrig was an American League All-Star seven consecutive times, a Triple Crown winner once, an AL Most Valuable Player twice (1927, 1936), and a member of six World Series champion teams.
