2020 Late December Auction Closing January 3
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 1/3/2021
Presented is a lot of two Babe Ruth 5 x 7-inch black & white baseball prints from the original negatives. The Hall of Fame New York Yankees slugger is depicted in the first item standing with a bat over his left shoulder wearing a Boston Braves uniform against the background of Braves Field in Boston at the twilight of his Major League Baseball career, looking to the left in wrinkled pants. The second item depicts Ruth at bat during batting practice, bat pointed towards right field, taken from the first base side. These prints are from the original, vintage negatives and are crisp, clear images of the late “Bambino”. Ruth’s career spanned 22 MLB seasons from 1914 through 1935. He began his career as a star left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox but achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the Yankees. Ruth established many MLB batting (and some pitching) records, including career home runs (714), RBIs (2,213), bases on balls (2,062), slugging percentage (.690), and on-base plus slugging (OPS) (1.164); the last two still stand as of 2020. He is regarded as one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture.
