It’s well known that Ted Williams missed three entire seasons in the prime of his career to serve in the US Navy and US Marine Corps during World War II. What is not as obvious from a glance at Teddy Ballgame’s stat page is the fact that he also missed portions of the 1952 & 1953 seasons, returning to active duty as a USMC combat aviator during the Korean War. Offered here are two 30 x 36 framed lithographs depicting Williams as a U.S. Marine. The lithos show Williams in his pilot’s uniform and three images of his fighter jet with a set of palm trees in the background. “Capt. T.S. Williams, U.S.M.C.”, “World War II” and “Korean War” are printed on the bottom. Williams has signed each of these framed pieces in bold black marker on the left. One of the pieces is numbered “369/500”, while the other is numbered “352/500”. This lot has been pre-certified by Beckett Authentication.
