2020 Late December Auction Closing January 3

Offered is a vintage 1955 Marilyn Monroe black and white photograph taken during the memorable “standing over the subway grate” scene from the 20th Century Fox motion picture romantic comedy “The Seven Year Itch”. The 8 x 10-inch publicity photo features the legendary actress in a white dress that is “blown up” by the wind coming from the subway grate on a New York City street. The footage of Monroe's dress billowing over a subway grate was shot twice: the first take was shot on location outside the Trans-Lux 52nd Street Theater, then located at 586 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, while the second take was on a sound stage. Both eventually made their way into the finished film despite the often-held belief that the original on-location footage's sound had been rendered useless by the overexcited crowd present during filming in New York. This photo has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (84224829) which has graded the photo Type III Authentic.
