The 1998 season brought fans everywhere back to the Stadiums as the great home run chase between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa continued throughout the season. Big Mac finished with the then Major League record 70 home runs. This St. Louis Cardinals white home uniform – jersey and pants, were worn by McGwire during that magical season.

The button-down jersey has the famous Cardinals name in red chenille stitching script with pair of birds atop the golden bat. Inside the front tail is the Rawlings manufacturers tag, with attached “52” size and “SET 1 1998” flag tags. His name “McGWIRE” appears on a matching white nameplate with his number 25” below – both are in red-on-navy tackle twill. The jersey shows light to moderate evidence of game use, and while the tapered tail is a known McGwire player characteristic, there is no sleeve logo and Rawlings was not the official supplier in 1998. McGwire has signed his name in blue marker on the left center chest below the “Cardinals” script on the front. The jersey has an MLB Authenticated hologram (MT00441471) and a LOA from Beckett Authentication for McGwire’s signature. Also included in this lot is a pair of matching white Rawlings game pants that have been labeled for the 1999 season. The white team strip tag is sewn on the inside waist and reads “McGWIRE 25 36-39 37 99 1”. The jersey and pants come with a LOA from noted baseball game used jersey expert William Henderson for the game use.
