Despite not leading his team to any post season triumphs, Bobby Murcer is nevertheless a Yankee legend. Raised in Oklahoma like his hero Mickey Mantle, Murcer was also a shortstop converted to play outfield, and was supposed to be the next great Yankee centerfielder. In 1979, Murcer likely had his greatest Yankee moment when on August 6, 1979, the day of teammate and best friend Thurman Munson's funeral, Murcer delivered the game winning walk off two-run double in the bottom of the 9th. This was after his three run home run two innings earlier brought the Yankees back into the game. Based upon factory records, and player use characteristics, it was during this emotional 1979 season Murcer used this 34 inch, 32.8 ounce, Louisville Slugger S2L model bat. This uncracked club exhibits excellent use with ball and stitch marks on the left barrel. A 12 inch length of spiral tape is on the handle with Murcer's number "2" and length "34" on the knob in black marker, and all factory burn stampings are dark and about as perfect as can be applied. On the sweet spot is a blue Sharpie "Bobby Murcer #2" signature, the number he wore in 1979. His standard #1 jersey was worn by Billy Martin that season. If you are looking for the quintessential perfect Bobby Murcer New York Yankee bat, you have found it with this example. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number B96857 for the bat, and full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number #S12547 for the signature.
