Offered in this lot is a typed speech featuring handwritten corrections by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. This speech, titled the “Pittsburgh Speech”, details Eisenhower’s thoughts on the economic concerns facing American citizens in 1956, such as minimum wage and expanding unemployment and Social Security benefits. The speech features handwritten corrections by Eisenhower, who liberally edited the semantics and tone of the speech. Eisenhower wrote over 175 words on these six typed pages, filling the back of one almost completely with his own handwriting. These documents are in good condition and show fascinating insights into how the Eisenhower administration functioned. The speech comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
