Offered is a lot of four Tom Gola plaques from his political career in the City of Philadelphia, after his Hall of Fame college and NBA basketball playing and coaching careers concluded. The first item in this lot is a framed display featuring two Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo signatures and an inscription. The left side of the display features a November 7, 1973 typewritten letter to the “Honorable Tom Gola, City Controller” on 6 x 8½-inch (visible) City of Philadelphia letterhead, signed by Rizzo in blue pen in the lower right. The Rizzo-signed letter to Gola is mounted at the left of a white with gold accents matte. Mounted at the right is a 7½ x 9¼-inch color silk-finish photograph of Gola, at left, shaking hands with Rizzo, at right. The photo is mounted on a white card inscribed at the lower center “Tom Best Wishes Frank” in blue pen. The Rizzo-signed letter and inscribed photo is displayed in a 16 x 23-inch blue marbled plastic with gold and gray accents and glass frame. The second item in this lot is a framed certificate from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development appointing Gola as the Regional Administrator, Philadelphia Region for the Federal agency, dated November 11, 1981.The 11 x 12½-inch (visible) ivory paper certificate is printed in black calligraphy and type, with a red, white, blue, brown, green, and gold American Eagle raised seal in the top center and a H.U.D. gold foil with red, white and blue ribbon seal in the lower left. The certificate is mounted in an ivory with gold accent matte and displayed in a 17½ x 19-inch brown wood with glass frame.

The third item in this lot is an 8½ x 11-inch white paper certificate from the City of Philadelphia with the legend “Oath of Office Thomas Gola” for the office of City Controller, dated January 5, 1970. Gola has signed his name in black marker in the right center. The document has a background image of the statue of the city’s founder, William Penn, in blue, and a gold foil seal in the lower left with yellow and light blue ribbons. The document is mounted in a 13 x 17-inch white cardboard matte. The fourth item in this lot is a Senate of Pennsylvania proclamation congratulating Gola ahead of a testimonial dinner in his honor on February 5, 1973, recognizing not only his college and pro basketball accomplishments but also his service as City Controller of Philadelphia and in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The 8 x 13-inch (visible) white document is printed in black calligraphic type with the seal of Pennsylvania at the top center printed in red, blue and gold, and a gold foil seal in the lower left. The document is mounted in a white linen matte and displayed in a 14½ x 19½-inch black with gold accent wood and glass frame. This lot comes with a LOA from the Gola family.
