Presented is a 1952 Tom Gola NIT Outstanding Player Trophy. The Amston Sterling Silver Paul Revere-style cup features a 7¼-inch cup and is 4-inches high and is inscribed on the front with the legend “National Intercollegiate Invitation Basketball Tournament Madison Square Garden Outstanding Player Trophy 1952 Won by Tom Gola – Norman Grekin”. The NIT was founded in 1938 and was originally the most prestigious post-season showcase for college basketball before the NCAA Championship tournament surpassed it in the 1970s. Gola, then a freshman at Philadelphia’s La Salle College, helped his Explorers win the 1952 NIT Championship, and was named co-MVP along with his teammate Grekin. La Salle beat Dayton 75-64 in the championship final at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. This item comes with a LOA from the Gola family.
