Presented is a 1954 Tom Gola Outstanding Catholic Athlete award. The 20-inch-high trophy includes a 2 x 4-inch gold metal plaque engraved with the legend “Presented to Thomas J. Gola Outstanding Catholic Athlete 1954 by St. Joseph H. N. Society Cheltenham PA”. The trophy features a 5-inch gold metal sculptural figure of an athlete with upraised arms mounted at the top of a 5-inch gold metal trophy cup. (Please note that the two arms of the figure at the top of the trophy are missing.) The trophy cup is mounted on a 6-inch gold metal pedestal. The pedestal is flanked by two 4-inch gold metal “angels” with wings raised, and arms upraised holding a laurel wreath. The pedestal and two angels are mounted on a 4-inch-high wood oval base. In 1954, Philadelphia native Gola led his La Salle College basketball team to the NCAA National Championship title. This item comes with a LOA from the Gola family.
