Offered in this lot is a presidential appointment document signed by Grover Cleveland. Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, served from 1885 to 1889, and again from 1893 to 1897. The appointment document in this lot names “Van Court Yantis”, likely Alexander Van Court Yantis, to the Office of Assay in St. Louis, Missouri as the Assayer in charge. The document was signed on October 2nd, 1888, seven years after the founding of the St. Louis Assay Office. The document has been signed in black pen by Grover Cleveland and his secretary of state, Thomas Bayard. The document is in good condition, and it comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
