Offered in this lot is a presidential document signed by James Polk in 1848. Polk, the 11th President of the United States, was born in Pineville, North Carolina, and served as Commander-in-Chief from 1845 to 1849. This document awards a brevet promotion to the rank of Major to Captain Albemarle Cady for meritorious service during the Battle of Molino del Rey in the Mexican-American War. Cady led a group of 100 soldiers in the storming of a flour mill during the conflict at Molino del Rey. This document was signed on July 19th of 1848 by Polk and secretary of war William Learned Marcy in black pen. The document is matted to the dimensions of 20 x 23 inches and comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
