Offered is a 1900 William Taft handwritten and signed letter with the original mailing envelope. The 27th president of the United States (1909–1913) and the 10th Chief Justice of the United States (1921–1930) (the only person to have held both offices) signed his name in black fountain pen on the third page of the three-page letter “Wm. H. Taft.”. The letter, written on the 5½ x 8½-inch ivory letterhead of “The Shoreham” hotel inn Washington, D.C., is dated April 3, 1900 and written in black fountain pen to George Leonard, Esq.  The letter is accompanied by a Taft-inscribed, Shoreham Hotel 4 x 9-inch letterhead envelope addressed to Leonard at the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Cincinnati, Ohio in black fountain pen. The envelope has two red, two-cent George Washington stamps postmarked April 4, 1900 Washington, D.C. This item comes with a LOA from JSA.
