Presented is a 1964 Mattel toy Herman Munster talking doll with original working voice and string. The 22-inch cloth and plastic doll features a plastic molded head of the patriarch of “The Munsters” from the 1964-1966 CBS television sitcom, in green, yellow and black, atop a cloth figure with a “talking box” in the chest, two green plastic hands folded in front, and a white plastic pull with black string at the left hip of the doll. Pulling the string, which is in perfect working order, elicits voices of the actor Fred Gwynne in his most famous role as Herman Munster. The doll is in excellent condition, and the voice box and operating string are in good working order, with the doll voicing 12 phrases. The doll is wearing a black suit with light blue turtleneck sweater. “The Munsters” depicted the home life of a family of benign monsters starring Fred Gwynne as Frankenstein's monster and head-of-the-household Herman Munster; Yvonne De Carlo as his wife Lily Munster; Al Lewis as Lily's father, Grandpa, the somewhat over-the-hill vampire Count Dracula, their teenage niece Marilyn Munster, whose non-monster features were attractive by conventional standards but made her the "ugly duckling" of the Munsters by the family's standards; and Butch Patrick as their werewolf son Eddie Munster. The series was a satire of both traditional monster movies and the wholesome family fare of the era and was produced by the creators of “Leave It to Beaver”.
