Presented is a collection of the late Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan’s NBA Draft scouting reports and other statistical data from his estate, as well as other documents, newspaper clippings, correspondence and books. Notable in this collection are two oversized scrapbooks of “Headline Memories” from The Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News with newspaper clippings from the 2002-2003 Utah Jazz season. Sloan’s collection includes several three-ring binders with documents and scouting reports from Marty Blake and Associates, one of the service agencies used by the National Basketball Association and include the 1993, 2001 and 2002 NBA Draft “Player Profiles” and scouting reports. This collection also includes a Utah Jazz binder with box scores, NBA memos, Utah Jazz memos, training schedules and travel itineraries from the 2002-2003 season. Sloan’s collection also includes a black binder with memos, documents and memorabilia (including newspapers, clippings, passes, photos, and programs) from his own playing career both with the University of Evansville as well as the Chicago Bulls, from alumni ceremonies and awards ceremonies in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Sloan compiled a set of memos and other documents, including travel itineraries and rules updates from the NBA and the Jazz in another black binder from the period 2000-2002, with some items including ticket stubs, publicity photos, invitations and correspondence. Sloan’s Spalding Top-Flite 10000 USA Basketball orange pebbled leather folder from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics is included in his collection, with box scores, scoresheets, rosters and other documents from the ’96 Gold Medal winning USA Basketball squad that he was an assistant coach to, with players including Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, John Stockton and Karl Malone, among others. Also included in this collection is a copy of the February 11, 2002 issue of Sports Illustrated with a story on Sloan promoted on the front cover, “On the Rebound the Personal Crisis that Shook Up Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan”. Sloan’s collection also includes numerous loose documents from the period from 1993 through 2002, which include box scores, stat sheets, NBA memos, Jazz memos, newspaper clippings, rule changes, play diagrams, travel itineraries, ticket stubs, passes, NBA draft policies and player data. Among the books in this collection are the 1999-2000 Utah Jazz Media Guide, two copies of the 1999 NBA Draft Media Guide, one copy each of the 2001 and 2002 NBA Draft Media Guides, two copies each of the 2002-2003 NBA Official Rules and the NBA Case Book, one copy each of the 1993-1994 NBA Official Rules and the Case Book, the 1998-1999 Utah Jazz Player’s Handbook, the 2002-2003 Utah Jazz Player’s Handbook, and the 1977-1978 NBA Media Directory. This collection comes with a LOA from the Sloan family.
