Los Angeles Dodger Corey Seager’s career was already showing signs of greatness when he was named starting shortstop on Opening Day of 2016. Seager replaced Jimmy Rollins at shortstop during the tail-end of the 2015 season, batting .337 in 27 games with four home runs and 17 RBIs and was named the starting shortstop during the team’s 2015 National League Division Series where the Dodgers lost to the New York Mets, three games to two. With 2016 on the horizon, Seager was primed for a breakout year.
A breakout year Seager had, earning a trip to the All-Star game and earning NL Rookie of the Year honors. Seager batted .308, scoring 105 runs, 193 hits, 72 RBIs, and 26 home runs. Seager would continue his path to baseball greatness after being hampered by injuries during the 2017, 2018, and part of the 2019 seasons. 2020 would be a different story, with a healthy Seager playing 51 out of 60 games during the Covid-shortened season, batting .307 with 38 runs, 65 hits, 41 RBIs, and 15 home runs, while leading the Dodgers to the World Series. Seager was named the MVP of the National League Championship series and went on to win the MVP of the 2020 World Series, where the Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in six games.
