Hall of Famer Willie McCovey spent the Bicentennial season of 1976 with teams at the opposite ends of California – the San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics. “The Scariest hitter in Baseball” was putting the finishing touches on his Hall of Fame career that would see him with 521 home runs and over 2,000 hits. McCovey’s Hillerich & Bradsby K75 model bat offered here and used during the 1976 season displays outstanding game use with a very slight crack on the handle that has been repaired. There are many ball marks, stitch impressions and blue ink transfers that are present on the barrel. There is a light coating of pine tar on the upper handle and McCovey’s number “44” is handwritten in black marker on the knob. There is a Liberty Bell logo to the right of the center brand which was unique to bats made during America’s 1976 Bicentennial. McCovey has signed his name in bold black marker on the barrel. A great gamer from an all-time great and if you don’t take our word for it, both PSA/DNA and MEARS have provided LOAs for the game use by McCovy, with both authentication companies giving this bat their highest possible grades – PSA/DNA (1B11130) a GU 10 and MEARS (317247) an A10.
