Old timers used to say that even the sight of Babe Ruth hitting a pop up was something to behold; how he put every ounce of his massive body into it, his compact swing and corkscrew follow through as he gazed up to the skies to see how high his pop up had sailed. Those who were fortunate to see it in person never forgot it, and this magazine cut photo depicts Ruth in just that fashion, midway through hitting a pop up. Sometime after Ruth’s enshrinement in Cooperstown in 1936, a fan clipped out this wonderful photo and caption and had the Babe himself sign it, creating a unique autographed piece. The black fountain pen is bold against the gray halftone photo and compliments the composition of the pose. The clipping has been folded several times and there is some cracking to the ink surface, though this does not impede the Ruth signature at all. The clipping measures 4 ½ x 7 ¾ inches and has been mounted to a scrapbook page on a white foam backing and remains affixed. The scrapbook page measures approximately 9 x 11 ½ inches and has some ragged edges and missing pieces. Properly mounted and framed, this would make an outstanding signed Ruth display. This piece comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA06979) for the signature.
