The sneaker that launched a thousand collections, the original Nike Air Jordan sneaker, was explicitly designed for Chicago Bulls Hall of Famer Michael Jordan in 1984 and released to the public with great fanfare and excitement on April 1, 1985. The sneakers were designed for Nike by noted designers Peter Moore, Bruce Kilgore, and Tinker Hatfield. Hatfield would go on to design many variations of the Air Jordan sneaker over the next 36 years. Jordan was beginning to dazzle NBA spectators with his gravity-defying performances during the NBA’s Slam Dunk contest and quickly became a star in the eyes of millions of basketball enthusiasts who clamored for the sneakers he wore on the court.

Presented here is a pair of size 12 Nike Air Jordan I original 1985 sneakers signed by the six-time NBA champion and five-time NBA MVP, Hall of Famer Michael Jordan. The sneakers feature a red, black, and white colorway with red rubber soles. The sneakers are labeled “AIR JORDAN” with a basketball laid between wings and appear on the outer upper ankle of each sneaker in black. The iconic Nike “Swoosh” appears on the outstep and instep of the sneakers in black. There are numerous instances of wear on the right sneaker, with scuff marks and evidence of wear on the toecap and ankle and a fading of the red leather. Jordan signed the back heel of the right shoe with a black marker. On the inside ankles are the size and year code (12 850604 TY1 - left, 12 850608TH - right). The signed Air Jordan I sneakers show wear and come with an COA from Upper Deck Authenticated (UAS14215).
