Offered is a classic ticket from the 1978 Kentucky Derby, a race which began the Triple Crown head to head matchup between Affirmed and Alydar. Ridden by 18 year old Steve Cauthen, Affirmed held off a hard charging Alydar to win the first leg of his Triple Crown, the last horse to attain this honor. This large stub is dated "May 6, 1978" and has been signed boldly in black marker by jockey Steve Cauthen and also by movie star Fred Astaire, who was a huge thoroughbred racing fan. Encapsulated by SGC as AUTHENTIC.
