As Game 5 started of the 2015 World Series, the Kansas City Royals were on the precipice of winning their first World Series title in 30 years, harkening back to the glory days when they were led by Hall of Famer George Brett. After splitting the first two games in Kansas City, the Royals arrived at City Field in Flushing, Queens and won back-to-back games (9-3 in Game 3 and 5-3 in Game 4) over the National League Champion New York Mets. This was the first World Series for the Mets since the 2000 Subway Series.

Using this Official Major League Robert D. Manfred, Jr stamped baseball, Mets ace Matt Harvey threw the first pitch to Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar. Escobar promptly fouled this ball back to the screen. This ball displays tremendous game use with a large dirt stain prominent on the top left of the sweet spot and partially on the west panel with the gold embossed 2015 World Series logo. There are other marks and abrasions and this ball comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (JB044120), authenticating that this ball was used in the top of the first inning for a foul back to the screen. In the at-bat, Escobar fouled off the first pitch, too two balls and then swung and missed on the next two pitches to strikeout.
