For the second straight season, the World Series pitted the National League Champion Los Angeles Dodgers against the American League and defending World Series Champion New York Yankees. The Dodgers jumped out to an early 2-0 series lead with 11-5 and 4-3 victories at Dodger Stadium. The Yankees would win the next four games to repeat as champions. Offered here is one of the game balls from Dodger Stadium, along with a Field Pass for MLB Films.
The game used baseball has the red stampings that include “OFFICIAL BALL 1978 WORLD SERIES Bowie K. Kuhn COMM.” Stamp on the sweet spot and the “75th WORLD SERIES” logo on the panel below. The ball has some dirt and abrasion marks and has been signed by the late Hall of Famer Hank Aaron. Aaron, who at that time was the all-time leader in home runs, signed his name on the sweet spot in faded black pen. This ball comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09006) for Aaron’s signature.
The second item is a yellow field pass that was issued to Chuck Cohen of MLB Films for the Third Base Dugout location. This pass has the Dodgers’ logo in black on the top with “WORLD SERIES 1978 DODGER STADIUM LOS ANGELES” below. Other print includes “WORKING PRESS, RADIO, TELEVISION AND PHOTOGRAPHER ADMIT TO BLUE LEVEL PRESS BOX, FIELD, INTERVIEW ROOM.” The pass is numbered in red “00251” and has “Chuck Cohen”, “MLB Films” and “Third Base Dugout” handwritten in blue pen. The back of the pass has legal disclaimers in regards to Major League Baseball. The tag is in good condition, with some creasing and punch holes from use of Games 1 & 2 on the bottom. There is a piece of tape attached to the back side on the upper left. This set comes with a letter of provenance from the MLB Film crew and an LOA from MEARS (317769).
