Roger Maris entered the record books when he broke Babe Ruth’s single-season home run record in 1961, knocking out his 61st home run during the final game of the season while playing for a New York Yankees team that would go on to win the World Series. Maris was the 1961 AL home run leader and won his second consecutive AL MVP and AL RBI Leader award during the 1961 season. The three-time World Series champion earned seven All-Star selections during a career that spanned 12 years. After playing his final two seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals, Maris retired in 1968 and went on to open a beer distribution company with his brother in Florida. Presented here is a 3 ½ x 2-inch business card signed by the man who broke Ruth’s single season record in 1961. The gray card is labeled “MARIS DISTRIBUTING COMPANY Roger E. Maris” and lists the locations of their two facilities with their addresses and phone numbers. The company, which was started with help from former Cardinals and Anheuser Bush owner Gussie Busch, distributed Anheuser Busch products to the Gainsville and Ocala, Florida areas. Maris signed the back of the business card with a blue ballpoint pen. The signed business card comes encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (83056566) and is rated Authentic Auto.
