Nicknamed “The Golden Arm,” Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas played 18 seasons in the NFL, primarily for the Baltimore Colts, where his strong arm and media-savvy personality changed the position of quarterback forever. Unitas was named the NFL MVP three times during his career and won four championship titles for the Colts; three were pre-merger, with the 1958 championship game dubbed “The Greatest Game Ever Played” was nationally televised by NBC. The thrilling game was the first overtime game in NFL history, with the Colts defeating the New York Giants 23-17 and was credited with increasing the popularity of the NFL in the 1960s. Unitas led the Colts to victory over the Dallas Cowboys 16-13 earning his only championship victory during the Super Bowl Era. The 10-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time NFL Passing and Touchdown Leader retired in 1973 after spending one year with the San Diego Chargers and earned entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.

Presented here is a Colts game model helmet signed by legendary Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas. The white with a blue stripe down the middle, size “L 7-7 1/2" Riddell model helmet features a gray metal facemask with “RIDDELL” in maroon on plastic at the front of the helmet. The iconic Colts horseshoe logo appears in blue on each side of the helmet. A Riddell “R” is positioned on the back right panel of the helmet in black. Unitas signed the right side of the helmet above the Colts horseshoe with a black marker. The helmet is in pristine condition and the signature is bold and displays no evidence of bleeding.
