The St. Louis Cardinals are one of the oldest franchises in Major League Baseball and have won 11 World Series titles and 22 National League pennants during their 116 seasons in the MLB. The Cardinals rosters over the years have consisted of some of the greatest players to ever step foot on the baseball diamond, and this presented lot contains signed jerseys by four of the greatest players to ever wear a Cardinals uniform.

The first item in this lot is a St. Louis Cardinals jersey signed by dazzling St. Louis shortstop Ozzie Smith. Nicknamed “The Wizard” for his defensive abilities that were brilliant and challenged the laws of science, Smith earned 13 Gold Glove Awards and was named to 15 All-Star teams during his 19 seasons primarily with the Cardinals where he won his lone World Series title in 1982. The presented nylon jersey is white with red, white, and blue stripes on the sleeves and collar and features “CARDINALS” across the chest in red-on-navy tackle twill. The iconic “Birds-on-Bat” Cardinals logo appears across the chest in yellow, red, and navy. The number “1” appears on the chest and back of the jersey in red-on-navy tackle twill. A Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Authentic Collection manufacturing tag appears on the front left tail of the jersey. A white swatch with embroidered “1982” is located on the jersey’s left front tail.  A Mitchell & Ness manufacturing tag with a size “L” tag has a Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Authentic Collection retail tag attached and is located on the inside collar. Smith, who was enshrined in Cooperstown in 2002 on the first ballot, signed and inscribed “HOF 02” with a blue marker on the chest of the jersey. The signature is clear and features no bleeding. Known for being fiercely competitive and an intimidating pitcher on the mound, Gibson once remarked to his own catcher Tim McCarver during a mid-game conference “The only thing you know about pitching is that it’s hard to hit.” The nine-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion earned two NL Cy Young Awards, the NL MVP Award in 1968, and was a two-time World Series MVP. Gibson lead the NL in wins, ERA, and strikeouts one time each and pitched one no-hitter during his 17-year career with the Cardinals. The presented five-button wool jersey is white and features “CARDINALS” in cursive across the chest in red and navy chenille stitching. The iconic “Birds-On-Bat” Cardinals logo appears across the chest in red, navy, and yellow chenille stitching. The number “45” appears on the chest and back of the jersey in red-on-navy felt. Brock was a prolific base stealer and broke Ty Cobb’s all-time steals record and went on to lead the National League in base stealing eight times while also winning two World Series titles and six All-Star selections over a 19-year career spent primarily with the Cardinals. The presented five-button wool jersey features “CARDINALS” across the chest in red-on-navy chenille stitching. The iconic Cardinals “Birds-On-Bat” appears across the chest of the jersey in navy, red, and yellow chenille stitching. The number “20” appears on the chest and back of the jersey in red-on-navy felt. A Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Authentic Collection manufacturing tag appears on the jersey’s left front tail. The fourth item is a St. Louis Cardinals jersey signed by famed slugger and member of the 500 Home Run Club, Mark McGwire. McGwire’s 583 home runs have him listed 11th on the 500 Home Run Club list, and the five-time MLB home run hitter and 1987 AL Rookie of the Year was named to 12 All-Star teams during a 16-year career spent with the Oakland Athletics and Cardinals. The first baseman won two World Series titles, one as a player with the Athletics in 1989, and the other as a coach with the St. Louis Cardinals. McGwire broke the single-season home run record of 61 set by Roger Maris 1961 when he smacked in 70 during the 1998 season. The presented five-button jersey is white and features “CARDINALS” across the chest in red and navy chenille stitching. The iconic Cardinals “Birds-On-Bat” logo is in red, yellow, and navy chenille stitching across the chest. A Rawlings MLB Authentic Collection manufacturing tag appears on the jersey’s left front tail. “56/583” indicating the number of the limited-edition jersey was written with a blue ballpoint pen on the jersey’s left front tail.
