The second match pitting Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston against each other was supposed to be a brawling slugfest between two heavyweights. With the location of the fight moved to the remote outpost of Lewiston, Maine, in front of under 3,000 fans, Ali floored the former champ in the first round with his iconic “phantom punch”. This was the match that propelled the newly-named Ali into global superstardom and is a defining moment in Ali’s legacy.
Offered here is a Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston orange variation full ticket measuring 2 ¼ x 5 ¼ inches from the famed Ali-Liston II fight from May 25th, 1965. The ticket has “INTERCONTINENTAL PROMOTIONS, INC.” printed on the top with images of the two combatants below. “ST. DOMINIC’S ARENA Lewiston, Maine TUESDAY EVENING, MAY 25, 1965-10:30 P.M.” is printed on the bottom middle with the face value of this ticket at $100.00 that equates to roughly $830.00 in today’s currency. This ticket was for Section 29, Row C and Seat 3 and is excellent condition.
