Presented here is a lot of three Oakland Raiders 8 ½ x 3 ½ -inch signed payroll checks from 1977-78.  The presented checks feature the Raiders logo in black on the top left side of the yellow checks. “OAKLAND RAIDERS” is labeled on the top of the checks with “7811 OAKPORT STREET OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA 94621” in black lettering. “OAKLAND MAIN OFFICE BANK OF AMERICA OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA” appears in black lettering on the top right corner of the checks. The account and routing information is located at the bottom of the checks. A red “PAID” stamp appears across the center of each check.

The first presented check was made out to former Raiders linebacker Willie Hall. Hall played linebacker for the Raiders for six seasons and was a member of the Raiders 1976 Super Bowl team coached by John Madden. The check was dated February 2, 1977, shortly after the Raiders defeated the Vikings in Super Bowl XI and was made out to Hall for $11,544.84. “OAKLAND MAIN OFFICE” and “BANK OF AMERICA NATIONAL TRUST & SAVINGS ASSOCIATION” are located in black lettering on the bottom left corner of the check next to “PAYROLL”. The check is signed by an executive named Davis and it does not appear to be signed by then-Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. Willie Hall signed the reverse side of the check with a blue ballpoint pen. “FB ‘77’ 22” and “PAY ANY BACK, P.E.G. BANK of AMERICA, NT, SA LOS ANGELES, CA” is stamped in blue on the reverse side of the check. The signatures are bold and the check is in fair condition and comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09096).

The second item in this presented lot is a check made out to Beverly Swanson and was issued on January 13, 1978, for $1,734.90 and was signed by an executive with the last name Davis, though it does not appear to be then Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis.  The reverse of the check features Beverly Swanson's signature and a pink stamp labeled “PAY ANY BANK BANKER OR TRUST CO, P.E.G. CROCKER BANK” with the date “JAN 1378187”. The check is in fair condition and comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09094).

The third item in this presented lot is an Oakland Raiders check dated May 5, 1977, made out to a Richard Van Tuyle for the amount of $374.75. “PAYROLL” appears in black on the bottom left corner just above “OAKLAND MAIN OFFICE BANK OF AMERICA NATIONAL TRUST & SAVINGS ASSOCIATION OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA”. The check is signed by a Raiders executive named Davis and does not appear to be the signature of then-Oakland Raiders owner, Al Davis. Richard Van Tuyle signed the reverse side of the check with a black ballpoint pen. A stamp labeled “MY ‘77’ 16 PAY ANY BANK CROCKER NAT’L BANK SAN FRANCISCO, 11-1020” in black appears on the left corner of the reverse side of the check. The signature is old, and the check is in fair condition and comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09095).
