The 29th President of the United States, Republican Warren G. Harding was widely beloved by the country until he died from a heart attack while on a tour of the western United States on August 2, 1923. Elected to the presidency in 1920, Harding served from March 2, 1921 until his death. Harding, an avid traveler, became the first president to visit Alaska and the first president to visit Canada when he made stops in both locations during his western tour. Harding steered the country back to normalcy during the post-World War I period after becoming the first Senator elected to the presidency. Harding oversaw normalizing relations with Europe after the Great War, greatly reducing the reparations payments owed to the United States by European powers. Harding also repaired the damaged relationship between the United States and Latin America that were tarnished under President Woodrow Wilson’s administration. Highly regarded when he died, a series of scandals including his involvement in the Teapot Dome Scandal and an affair with a secretary that produced a child did much to turn the public’s affections against him.

Presented here is a 7 ¾ x 10-inch black and white portrait signed and inscribed by President Warren G. Harding. The photo is of Harding in a suit looking past the camera with a stoic gaze. Warren signed and inscribed “To Mrs. U.S. Grant Jr. with cordial greeting and very best wishes” in black ink. The inscription and signature are bold and the photo is in good condition. The black and white portrait of Warren G Harding signed and inscribed by the 29th President comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09025).
