Sportswriters were issued press pins during World Series games to restrict access to the press box during important games. This presented New York Yankees press pin was given to sportswriters during the 1960 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Managed by the humorous Casey Stengel and led by Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Yogi Berra, the Yankees lost the Pirates in seven games. This presented press pin comes in a 1 ¾ x 2 ¾ -inch maroon plastic case with a clear plastic lid. The press pin rests upon yellow foam and features a gold-painted image of Casey Stengel set upon a white background in a baseball shape. The stitching on the pin is in gold, and the pin is labeled “WORLD SERIES” and “PRESS” in painted gold lettering. “1960” and the iconic interlocking “NY” appear painted in gold on a painted blue crown that is attached to the pin. The pin is in excellent condition and shows a minimal amount of use.
