The United States Football League was a short-lived competitor to the National Football League that operated for three seasons from 1983-85. The league utilized a spring/summer schedule and fielded 18 teams in cities across America. The league planned to switch to an autumn/winter schedule to compete with the NFL for the 1986 season, but lawsuits between the league and the NFL crippled the league, and the USFL folded in 1986. The Philadelphia Stars were the most dominant team in the USFL. Coached by Jim Mora, the Stars won a league-best 41 regular season games and seven playoff games during their three-year run that saw the team appear in all three USFL Championship games, winning two of them in 1984, and 1985 when they relocated to Baltimore. This presented USLF Champions Pendant is from the Philadelphia Stars 1984 16-2 season where they won the USFL Championship against the Arizona Wranglers 23-3 at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida on July 15th, 1984. The pendant comes with the original 4 7/8 x 3 7/8-inch red felt box. The inside of the box is labeled “1984 STARS USFL CHAMPIONS” in red on white felt. The gold pendant features a gold chain and the pendant itself is gold with red and features “STARS” in gold and black in the middle with a cz stone in the center. The pendant is labeled “PHILADELPHA USFL 1984 CHAMPIONS” in black engraving. The pendant shines bright and shows no evidence of tarnishing. There are some scratches on the back of the pendant. The box shows some evidence of wear and the alignment of the box is slightly askew.
