Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw won another Cy Young Award for his 2014 regular season that included a 21-3 record and 1.77 ERA. This was Kershaw’s third Cy Young Award and he led the Dodgers back to the postseason. Offered here are a pair of game used items from the 2014 NLDS between the Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals used by Kershaw. What makes this lot unique is that the offered bat used by Kershaw hit the baseball that is also presented in this lot.
The first item is Kershaw’s D-Bat DB-CK-22 M model bat that was used during the 2014 postseason when he pitched (and batted) in Games 1 & 4 with Kershaw going 1-for-2 between the two games. This bat displays outstanding game use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks, blue ink transfers, white leather scuffs and cleat imprints present on the barrel. There is a moderate coating of pine tar on the upper handle and covering the trademark. There is a mark on the handle that identifies the grain, which has been mandatory per Major League Baseball for all maple bats since 2009 and the knob has a blue and white Shutte sticker with “LOS ANGELES DODGERS 22”. The bat’s weight “31.5 oz” and order number “11288” is handwritten in silver marker on the inside of the cupped barrel end. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14435) for the game use and has been given the highest possible grade of GU 10. Please note that PSA/DNA has noted in their LOA that this bat was photo matched to Games 1 & 4. However, there are no images provided by PSA/DNA.
The second item in this lot is the game used ball hit by Kershaw in the top of the 5th inning for a foul ball off Cardinals’ pitcher Shelby Miller. The bat in this lot hit this Official Major League Allan H. Selig stamped baseball with a “2014 POSTSEASON” stamp. The ball displays excellent use with abrasion marks, including a light red mark consistent with the cherry-colored barrel of Kershaw’s bat. This ball comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (HZ358014), which authenticates that Kershaw hit this ball for a foul ball during Game 4 of the NLDS played on October 7th, 2014.
