“Do you believe in miracles? YES!” exclaimed broadcaster Al Michaels as the final seconds wound down during the USA Men’s hockey team upset 4-3 victory over the heavily favored Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York. Led by head coach Herb Brooks, the team consisted of mostly amateur players and surprised most of the world with their physical and coherent play, were demolished by the Soviets 10-3 during Olympic exhibition play, with Soviet head coach Viktor Tikhonov stating that the lopsided victory turned out to be a problem for the Soviets as they underestimated their American counterparts during medal play. The match between the inexperienced American team and the Soviets who were four-time defending gold medalists and seasoned professionals, the game closer than anyone expected. After a 2-2 tie in the first, the Soviets scored one goal in the second period and went into the third period leading 3-2. The Americans, led by captain Mike Eruzione, scored two unanswered goals in the third period while keeping a formidable Soviet offense at bay to win 4-3. The United States then went on beat Finland for the gold medal, earning the second hockey gold medal in United States history.

Presented here is a 1980 “Miracle on Ice” USA Men’s Hockey team signed custom jersey. The white pullover jersey with red and blue stripes on the sleeves, rests inside a 34 x 43-inch frame on a blue matte and features “MIRACLE” in white tackle twill on a blue nameplate across the back of the jersey. The number “80” adorns the sleeves and back of the jersey in blue-on-red tackle twill. 15 players signed the number “80” on the back of the jersey and include signatures from Jim Craig, Mike Eruzione, Dave Christian, Ken Morrow, Mike Ramsey, Dave Silk, Bob Suter, Buzz Schneider, Rob McClanahan, John Harrington, Steve Janaszak, Jack O’Callahan, Mark Wells, Eric Strobel, and Phil Verchuta. All of the signatures are bold and were signed with a silver metallic paint pen. The signed jersey comes with a sticker from Schwartz Sports (A127913). Two “USA Olympic” logos adorn the upper corners of the framed collage. An illustration of coach Herb Brooks with red, white, and blue trim is signed by Brooks with a blue marker rests at the center bottom of the collage and comes with a STICKER ONLY from JSA (I15577). The iconic photo of the USA Men’s Olympic Hockey team celebrating with the American flag waving in the background is located on the bottom left corner of the collage. A raised “RELIVE THE MIRACLE 35Th Anniversary 1980-2015” logo appears on the bottom of the collage and a “XII Olympic Winter Games Lake Placid, 1980” logo on the right side. A photo of the USA Olympic Team gathering on the podium during the medal ceremony and signed by Mike Eruzione and other members in various colors of marker is located on the bottom right corner. Labeled at the bottom of the collage reads “1980 USA OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST HOCKEY TEAM THE UNITED STATES NATIONAL TEAM MADE UP OF AMATEUR AND COLLEGIATE PLAYERS AND LED BY COACH HERB BROOKS DEFEATED THE SOVIET UNION NATIONAL TEAM WHICH HAD WON THE GOLD MEDAL IN SIX OF THE SEVEN PREVIOUS OLYMPIC GAMES TO WIN THE GOLD MEDAL IN THE 1980 WINTER OLYMPICS” in raised lettering.
