Presented here are two 23 x 28 ½ -inch black and white lithographs painted by renowned artist Robert Stephen Simon. Simon, a prolific painter and artist, began his career as a freelance artist in the 1970s and focused primarily on painting professional athletes. Simon expressed an affinity for the New York Yankees, and these two lithographs are of Hall of Famers and former New York Yankees Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle. The limited edition, both number 93 out of 300, feature the Hall of Famers in full-swing set against a backdrop of newspaper headlines detailing their feats on the baseball diamond. The lithographs are richly detailed and the images of the ballplayers are crisp, and the lifelike and richly detailed images and headlines make the lithograph seem as if it was culled directly from the newspapers. Robert Stephen Simon signed and inscribed “93/300” in blue marker on the left side of the Mickey Mantle lithograph. Simon signed the left corner of the DiMaggio lithograph with a black marker. Mantle signed his lithograph with a black marker on the midsection of the lithograph, and DiMaggio signed his lithograph in the center with a blue marker. The signatures are bold and crisp and the lithograph features some cornering, edging, and have been rolled up. The signed, limited-edition lithographs come with an LOA from Beckett Authentication.
