Presented here is a baseball signed by 31 members of the 1981 American League pennant winning New York Yankees. In a strange, strike shortened season, the Yankees qualified for the playoffs by virtue of winning the American League East in the first half of the season, setting up a playoff matchup with the second half champion Milwaukee Brewers. Despite winning the first half, manager Gene Michael was replaced with Bob Lemon on September 6th and guided the Yankees to a five-game division series win over the Brewers. The Yanks went on to sweep the Oakland A’s in the ALCS, before falling in six games to a familiar World Series foe, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
