The 1933 Yankees were a team transitioning from one dynasty to another. The team still had several of the key members of the 1927-28 teams that won back-to-back World Championships and most of the lineup that swept the Cubs in the 1932 series, as well as a young crop of youngsters that would lead the Yankees to four straight World Championships from 1936-39. Despite this blend of old and new stars, New York came up short and lost the 1933 pennant to a tough Washington Senators team. This outstanding Reach Official American League William Harridge ball collects 17 of the 1933 Yanks, including Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Red Ruffing, Joe Sewell and Lefty Gomez plus Danny MacFayden, Art Jorgens, Charlie Devens, Jumbo Brown and seven others. Ruth, of course is in his customary place on the ball’s sweet spot and Gehrig is on an adjacent panel. Though not a pennant winner, this ball is loaded with star power and Hall of Famers of the first rank. A light coat of shellac coats the ball and has given it a warm patina with age. The shellac has chipped in a few places, but the ball displays exceedingly well. This ball comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signatures.
