Presented here is a 29 x 29 photo collage display featuring a handwritten and signed letter by legendary Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young. Young pitched 19 seasons in Major League Baseball where the famed pitcher posted 511 wins, 7, 356 career innings pitched, 815 career games started, 749 complete games, and 25 1/3 consecutive hitless innings pitched are all MLB records. The five-time wins leader pitched three no-hitters, including a perfect game, and was known for his hard-throwing style that evolved into a more controlled style of pitching as he aged.  Young was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1937, and the Cy Young Award was created in 1956 a year after his death to honor the best pitchers in the American and National Leagues. The presented collage rests upon a gray matte and features “CY YOUNG” in raised red lettering with a white border on the top of the display. Two photos of Young are located on the top and bottom right of the display in black and white. An image of the Cy Young Award rests atop the display on the left corner. Four early baseball cards are located on the display’s left corner. A plaque labeled “Denton True “Cy” Young (March 29, 1867-November 4, 1955) was an American Major League pitcher. During his 21-year baseball career (1890-1911) he pitched for five different teams. Young established numerous pitching records, some of which have stood for a century. Young compiled 511 wins, which is the most in Major League history and 94 ahead of Walter Johnson who is second on the list. Young was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.” The second plaque located on the right of the display that transcribes the handwritten letter and is labeled “One was to learn this game is to take lots of time. Play ball as often as you can. Pick out some spot you like in the game that was the way I done. Then get a chance for a try out after you are sure you can make the grade. I do not think you can learn it overnight. You can learn after 13 yrs, 20 yrs, or at least I learned till the end of my career…”  The handwritten and signed letter is on 8 x 10 paper and the stamped envelope is addressed to a “Howard Hetzler Box 13 Barrrington, Ill.” And features “Cy Young” written in pencil on the envelope. A three-cent stamp is affixed to the top corner of the envelope. The handwritten letter is bold and the signature is clear and features no bleeding. The 29 x 29-inch framed display featuring a handwritten and signed letter by Cy Young comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA (UO4316) and an LOA from JSA (X56587).
