Brash. Controversial. Known for meddling in the day-to-day on-field dealings of his managers, George Steinbrenner owned the New York Yankees for 37 years, from 1973 until 2010. Nicknamed “The Boss” by his managers for his hands-on approach to owning a baseball team, Steinbrenner was known for his impetuous hiring and firing of managers, firing and hiring noted Yankees manager Billy Martin on several occasions. His ownership style proved effective as the Yankees won seven World Series titles and 11 American League pennants while under his stewardship.
