Graded GEM MINT 9.5. Rookie Card. One of Tom Brady’s rarest first-year cards, this 2000 Bowman Rookie of the Year Promotion card is extremely hard to find. Topps created 250 of the cards, and they acted as a redemption good for an exclusive rookie card set if the player featured on the card front won the Rookie of the Year Award that season.
Since Brady was low on the New England Patriots depth chart and didn’t have a chance at winning the award, it's believed that many collectors threw the card away. Now, they wished they had saved this card.
The few of these redemption cards that remain have become a truly rare collectible, as just 35 have been graded by BGS, as shown in the company’s population report. The 2000 Bowman ROY Promotion cards were difficult to pull from packs, seeded 1:76 packs, with 75 different players featured on the fronts. The cards were identical to the player's base card, but with a gold foil “Rookie of the Year Bowman Promotion” stamp placed on the front. The backs of the card detail the rules for the promotion.
While Brady did not end up winning the Rookie of the Year Award, he did go on to win a slew of other awards, including the NFL’s Most Valuable Player three times, the Super Bowl MVP five times and NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2009. The future Hall of Famer has also won seven Super Bowl titles, including his latest this past February with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The card features clean edges, which can be tough to find on 2000 Bowman cards due to their color borders. The card is stunning to behold, and a super addition to any collection. The card’s BGS condition report: Centering: 9.5, Corners: 9, Edges: 9.5, Surface 9.5. Gem Mint condition.
