Babe Ruth spent World War II doing everything in his power to support the war effort. The world’s most famous ballplayer crisscrossed the country to appear at war bonds benefits and visit the troops. In one of those war bond benefits in August of 1942, the Babe clubbed what would be his final home run in Yankee Stadium, a towering upper deck shot hit off fellow Hall of Famer Walter Johnson. In the early 1940’s (1940-42), based on the Official American League William Harridge, Pres. stamping, Babe Ruth penned his distinctive signature in bold black pen on this ball. What makes this ball special is that Ruth signed his name not on the customary sweet spot, but on the side panel. A rarity in single-signed Ruth baseball exemplars. This lightly toned ball also inscribed by Ruth and reads “To Billy Ray From” above his signature. The ball has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (81422747) and have graded Ruth’s signature and the baseball NM+7.5. A truly stunning single-signed Babe Ruth baseball.
