Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among more than 2,100 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, fewer than two percent have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. The great Brooklyn Dodgers catcher, Roy Campanella, enjoyed his signature season in 1953. The former Negro Leaguer, three-time Most Valuable Player, clubhouse leader, and all-around superstar raised the bar for himself that year, and left all would-be competitors to suffer by comparison. Campanella set new offensive records for catchers in 1953 by clubbing 41 homers and driving in 142 runs. Naturally, he was his League's MVP (for the second time). From a collecting point of view, only the finest card could be a worthy Campanella memento from this incredible year. Offered is a suitably spectacular example of card number 27 from the 1953 Topps issue, featuring the smiling portrait of the Dodgers icon. Its likeness of Campy is radiant, and every detail glows with lustrous gloss and pack-fresh brightness. The piece's jet-black caption block appears unaffected by circulation's effects. Clean white borders surround Campanella's well-centered image, and sharply formed corners complete the cardfront presentation. The reverse is commensurately fine in all respects, demonstrating rock-solid print definition. This Campanella example will glow proudly in the finest collection. Near Mint to Mint-plus condition.
