Lou Sleater was a journeyman left handed pitcher with a pedestrian 12-18 career won-loss record. While he did not pitch at all the for the major league New York Giants, Sleater was in their system for part of 1948 and all of 1949, when he was in Giants Spring Training hoping for his first shot in the majors. It was during this 1949 spring training where Sleater wore this Giants cap. The black wool cap has the Interlocking burnt orange “NY” on the front, with the manufacturer “MacGregor Goldsmith” and size “7 ¼” stamped in the still supple leather headband. The name “Lou Sleater” is written on the headband, which exhibits nice evidence of game use with multiple areas of sweat and dirt stains. Tremendous vintage cap of the now-defunct New York Giants. LOA from Dave Miedema, noted game worn sports expert.
