Opening Day Auction 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/26/2014
Developed by Boston area financier and magnate Thomas Lawson, this card game was produced in 1884, and was one of the first money-making items he developed. This game includes 36 player game cards, two “value cards” and the original 24 page rules booklet. Each game card displays a very nice image of a real game being played, and many of the game cards contain player images, but none are recognized as any players of the day. This was the first card game which intimated “real game action”. The game cards are all EX/MT to NM; one value card has creases, while the rules booklet remains fully intact. The original card box does have its issues with both flaps, but all text and images are still very recognizable. Table top and card game has always been a fantastic avenue of the collecting hobby, as nice example of these games rarely surface. Interestingly, this game was actually played by existing major league players at that time; part of a tournament sponsored by Thomas Lawson, and received as much notoriety as the actual game played on the field! Excellent overall condition.
