The all-time winningest left-handed pitcher in major league history, Warren Spahn racked up 363 wins against 245 losses before finally retiring at the age of 44 in 1965 after 21 seasons in the bigs, 19-and-a-half of them for the Boston/Milwaukee Braves. Spahn went 4-12 in 19 starts for the 1965 N.Y. Mets and 3-4 in 11 starts for the San Francisco Giants in 1966 before hanging up his spikes for good. Spahn spent five years managing the Tulsa Oilers, Pacific Coast League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals before signing this $20,000 contract as pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians. Spahn’s signature in clearly legible ball point pen appears under Cleveland Indians president Gabe Paul’s signature on the interior page of the light blue, folded two-page agreement under the heading: American League of Professional Baseball Clubs Uniform Employee’s Contract dated 20th of January 1972. Spahn would gain election the National Baseball Hall of Fame the next year. Signature is pre-certified by PSA/DNA and comes with a Letter of Provenance from The Personal Collection of Warren Spahn signed by his son Greg.
