On Aug. 10 of the 2007 season, the Indians honored Hall of Fame outfielder Larry Doby by wearing his retired number “14” jersey in a game against the New York Yankees. Doby, seven-time All-Star and 1948 World Series champion, became the first black player to hit a home run in the World Series, win a home run title in the Majors, win the AL RBI title and win both a World Series and Negro League title. Lofton, a talented outfielder in his own right (six-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove winner) went 1-for-4 against the Yankees while wearing this jersey, which he signed in bold, black Sharpie on the back accompanied with the inscription of his number “7.” Doby’s number “14” appears on the back in red on glittery silver and navy blue tackle twill, as does “Indians” which is scripted across the chest of the jersey. An Indians logo patch is stitched on the left sleeve of the jersey. The front tail of the jersey features a “Majestic Authentic Collection” manufacturer’s tag with a white strip tag below. The strip tag has Lofton’s number “7” written in black marker with a stitched number “12” to the right that is partially shaded out by black marker. The numbers “48” and “07” also appear stitched on the strip tag, indicating the jersey’s size and year. The jersey comes with a COA from the Cleveland Indians Baseball Company.
