Opening Day Auction 2014

Whether they know it or not baseball fans across the country are familiar with the work of artist Dick Perez who was the official portrait artist for the National Baseball Hall of Fame for more than 20 years and is still commissioned to paint the portraits of new inductees annually. Since 1972 Perez has also been the official artist of the Philadelphia Phillies. Born in Puerto Rico in 1940 Perez moved to Philadelphia when he was 18 and attended the Philadelphia College of Art and University of Pennsylvania. This 19” x 16” full-color action print of Phillies five-time All-Star second baseman Chase Utley, following through on an apparent home run swing, is signed by Utley in bright red sharpie at the bottom of the portrait’s surrounding mat and is also signed by Perez who added the print’s number (80/750) and is contained in a sleek metallic black 22” x 25” frame. Signature has been authenticated by PSA/DNA.
